Sugababes Fragrances : Tempt Review

Hi Everyone,
The PR for the new Sugababes fragrances kindly contacted me and asked if I would like to try one of their new fragrances. I accepted as in all honesty, I really like the Sugababes, I have most of their albums I've collected over the years in my CD collection!

Their new range consists of 3 fragrances – Tempt, Tease and Touch, I decided to try Tempt which described as being ' a fragrance in tune with the Sugababes vibe'. Tempt has top notes of iced tea and blackcurrant, heart notes of purple orchid, sweet rose and berries, with base notes of musk and vanilla. The packaging is a sleek black, and comes packaged in a matching black box with a reflective sihlouette of the 3 girls.

I was pleasantly surprised by the fragrance when it first arrived, it's not your typical overly sweet floral fragrance, it has a bit of a mature edge to it. I think this makes the fragrance versatile, I've worn this for both day and night wear.

I really get the heady floral sweetness first from the fragrance, but it has depth from the musk, vanilla and iced tea that takes the sweetness down slightly, making it more of a complex scent which I really enjoy. As it begins to dry down the sweetness subsides slightly and really gives way to the musk and vanilla base notes which is why I'd wear this fragrance at night too.

The fragrances, released exclusively to The Perfume Shop are priced at £19.99 for 100ml which is what really won me over, I already have my eye on Touch which I will be picking up in the near future! Touch has heart notes of intense violet and damascus rose which sounds like a match made in heaven – I have a serious love of violet and rose scents.

Along with the number of Sugababes fragrance giveaways taking place, if you'd like to be in with another chance of winning one of the new fragrances be sure to check out their current facebook competition HERE  All you have to do is enter a Touching, Tempting or Teasing photo relating to the weeks theme to be in with a chance!

Thanks for reading everyone :)

Make Up For Ever HD Blush - #6, Quickie

Hi Everyone,
I'm sure most people are familiar with Marlena (Makeup Geek) on YouTube. A few weeks a go I entered one of her Weekly Challenges on the Makeup Geek forum, the theme happened to be Lady Gaga and I was very shocked to be chosen as one of the winners. The quality of makeup everyone produced was amazing. The makeup look I entered that won was the Telephone makeup look I posted here back in March.

One of the prizes I chose was the Make Up For Ever HD Blush in #6 - Quickie. As Make Up For Ever is a bit of a pain to get hold of in the UK this is one of the first things I've tried from Make Up For Ever. The blush retails for £20.50 on www.makeup-provisions.com (PAM) for 10ml of product. On the Sephora website the colour is described as a 'Salmon Pink' which I agree with to an extent, it just seems to be a little deeper than expected.

Wayne (Gossmakeupartist on YouTube) noted in his review that you don't need to press the pump very hard or you're going to be left with too much product - and this is very true. The blush is very pigmented so the pump only needs the lightest touch. I do like the fact that it's a pump applicator, but it definitely releases way too much product.

The product sets to more of a satin finish as my foundation has more of a dewy finish without powder. Swatched on bare skin it definitely has more of a matte finish for me. I expected the formula to be somewhat runny, but I was surprised that it is thicker than expected but very light and easily blended. Lasting power is great, it lasts all day and I've even wore it for nights out without any problems.

Although the colour is gorgeous, I'm not sure if I'm in love with it on myself - I feel it could be a little too dark and stark against my pale skin. I think it would look beautiful against more olive or deeper skin tones.

Illamasqua Brush Review

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick side note on my blog pictures, they're down again at the moment again as my Photobucket bandwidth has gone, I'm upgrading to a full year account tomorrow so please bare with me :)  They'll be back soon.
A little while back Illamasqua kindly contacted me and offered to send me some brushes to try out. I made my first Illamasqua purchase a few months ago which was the Intense Lipgloss in the shade Indulge and I was beyond happy with the quality of the gloss – the pigmentation is amazing and the colour was perfect! After getting over the initial excitement I of course accepted as I had been planning on trying out Illamasqua's brushes among their other products.
As this is the first product review I'm featuring on my blog I do want to say that I wouldn't ever accept a product to review that I wouldn't be willing to purchase and try myself. Illamasqua offered to send me the brushes, not for a blog post in return for them – I just wanted to share my opinion of them.
Anyway, on to the brushes!

Alex from Illamasqua was beyond helpful as there was a mix up with the first package sent to me, so she sent out a second which I received in 2 days. I received 3 brushes which were the Kabuki Body Brush, Blending Brush 2 and the Lip Brush. All of the brushes are synthetic so I was surprised with how soft they all are, I've cleaned them around 8 times now and have literally only lost about 3 hairs from the Kabuki, none from the others. Shedding is a major issue for me with brushes – most recently my MAC 109 began shedding horrendously when using cream or liquid products, despite taking good care of it. As for the packaging, I really do love the fact that they're a uniform glossy black colour, with the Illamasqua logo printed on each one making them look very sleek and timeless. All of the brush bristles are densely packed and are very sturdy. I've been testing out the brushes for nearly 3 weeks now and so far I'm very impressed with them.

Kabuki Body Brush retails for £38.00
The Kabuki Body Brush was the brush I expected to use the least as it is quite large (it's the same size as the palm of my hand) but I have found myself using it whenever I apply my makeup. I've been using bronzer a lot more now it's summer and I adore this brush for blending a little bronzer across my neck, collar bones and chest for a bit of a summer glow – perfect for a night out too. It's also amazing for blending out any overly-intense bronzer or blush on the face too as it's so large it really does blend anything effortlessly, taking only a few seconds to do.

Blending Brush 2 retails for £25.00
The Blending Brush 2 is certainly a large brush in comparison to most eye brushes, but I think that's what I like most about it. I always tend to go for a larger brush for blending just because it makes it so much easier. The brush is quite dense so it moves colour easily and seamlessly, I love this for blending out deeper crease colours and it's extremely useful for blending out a smokey eye. One other use I've found for it is for setting my under eye concealer with powder, as I lean towards having more dry skin I don't like to set my whole face with powder, just the places that need it – this is great for targeting that specific area. One thing I will say is that as this brush is so large, I can see some people not getting much use out of it - I certainly like to go for more drastic looks at times which this is ideal for.
Lip Brush retails for £18.00
Lastly, the Lip Brush - it's safe to say that lip brushes are one of my most used as I love a bold lip. This brush isn't overly-flexible, it has a little bit of resistance which is ideal for creating a precise shape with ease.  The tip of the brush is tapered into a rounded point which is great for the cupid's bow, I've created more rounded and pointed shapes using this wish ease. It's a good size, not too small that it's going to take a good 5 minutes to apply a full lip colour and not too large that it's difficult to apply precisely.
Overall, I think the quality of the brushes definitely met my expectations of the brand. One thing I do like is how the brushes are named, rather than MAC's numbered system these are named with their reccommended purpose. As you can see from the first image they all came in soft frosted plastic cases, which I have found particularly useful for the lip brush - I don't really like throwing a lip brush into my makeup bag as it tends to get lipstick everywhere, keeping it in the protective cover not only stops the brush from being damaged but keeps my bag clean too :) I also want to add that even after washing them they have returned to their original shapes every time, without any unwanted splaying so far. I think I'll definitely be purchasing a few more brushes for myself, I've got my eye on the Blending Brush 2's baby sister - Blending Brush 1, Blusher Brush 2 and the Eye Brow brush amongst others!

Glamour Doll Eyes Samples: Haul and Review

Hi Everyone,
I've seen this company mentioned a few times on youtube as well as on A Brilliant Brunette's blog so I thought I'd give them a try.

*EDIT* Turns out they do have free shipping for orders over $30 - thanks for letting me know SilhouetteScreams
One thing I will say is that on the site international shipping seems to have a standard price of $28 for full size jars which to me is quite steep; especially if you only want to make a small order of just 2 shadows for example. The standard rate of shipping I've paid for cosmetics from the States is around $14. The sample baggies however were just $1.50 each with free international shipping (free shipping applies to sample jars too). The postage was quick and I recieved them in about 8-9 days.

(as usual click to enlarge all the images)

The colours I received (clockwise from the red glitter) are:
  • Fierce (cherry red glitter - glitters are called 'Eye Lights' on the site)
  • Techno (teal glitter)
  • Cashed Out! (forest green glitter)
  • Little Black Dress (black glitter)
  • Tokyo (matte lilac shadow)
  • Glam Girl (metallic royal purple)
  • Tattooed (very blue toned purple with an iridescent royal purple shimmer)
  • Sex Appeal (purple toned grey with green shimmer)
  • Hollywood (silver holographic glitter)
  • Glowstick (neon lime green glitter)
  • Rave (bright royal purple glitter)

The 2 free samples I recieved with the order were Sex Appeal shadow and Cashed Out! glitter, I believe free samples are complimentary with every order which was a nice touch.

Overall I feel the photos and descriptions on the site matched very well to the actual colour of the shadows. I actually ended up odering more glitters than shadows. Tattooed I feel is the only one that surprised me slightly, I expected it to be more of a purple colour - as you can see it is very blue toned.

The glitter is extremely finely milled, I've used them a few times already and am really happy with the quality.
I did have an issue with the black glitter called Little Black Dress though, as it doesn't appear to be as sparkly as the other glitters, it has a lot more of a subtle shimmer that doesn't really show up:

As for the quality of the eye shadows I found them to be amazingly pigmented and lasted just as well as any other shadow I own. I went on a bit of a purple kick when I was ordering, but the free sample of Sex Appeal is really stunning! It's a nice unique colour that I haven't seen before. The shimmery shadows look amazing foiled (applied wet) and take on a more obvious metallic look.

Photobucket
(l to r) Sex Appeal, Tattooed, Glam Girl, Tokyo
Swatches are applied dry with no base to give you an idea of the pigmentation

The size of the baggies surprised me slightly too as they're quite small being 5 1/2cm x 4cm and are about a third full which isn't really a tonne of product - but I suppose the point of samples are to entice you into buying the full size product so I can't really complain!
The colours of all the samples I ordered are very bright which I'm delighted with, the only thing that puts me off buying the full size jars is the shipping price, if it was lower I would order with no hesitation!

Rimmel Colour Show Off Lipstick - Shocking Pink

Hi everyone,
Yesterday I got a little surprise in the post - about 1 or 2 months ago I entered a giveaway on Rimmel's website in which they were giving away 12000 free Colour Show Off lipsticks which I naturally forgot about after assuming I hadn't won one.

I vaguely remember Rimmel allowing you to choose which lipstick you would like if you were a winner, at this point I hadn't seen them in person so I just picked Shocking Pink  which sounded promising. It's a really deep bright pink that looks very red based on me.

It has a somewhat watermelon scent which I recognise from previous Rimmel lipsticks I've owned in the past. The thing that surprised me most has to be the consistency, I expected these to be matte and drying which is why I didn't purchase any, but in fact they're nice and creamy and leave a nice sheen on the lips.

Photobucket

The only downside for me is the colour as it's something I wouldn't usually wear but I think it could look gorgeous with winged liner for a night out. For day wear it's a bit stark against my pale skin - I can see it looking gorgeous on deeper skin tones :)

The pigmentation is amazing, it glides on really easily and one swipe gives colour identical to that in the tube:
Photobucket

Photobucket
(excuse the shoddy lip swatch, I just applied it quickly straight from the tube - certainly a no-no, this is definitely a colour that I would use a lip brush with).
For reference of how creamy it is my lips were slightly dry when I applied this, I didn't put lip balm on before.
Overall, I'm very impressed. I think I'll be purchasing a few colours from the range, Smaira has a gorgeous  swatch of Kiss Me which I will be sure to pick up after seeing her pictures of it!

Topshop Cream Blush Review + Superdrug MUA Revisited

Hi Everyone,

Today I finally returned the Topshop cream blush I purchased that had been put in the wrong box, what I thought to be Neon Rose turned out to be Crushed Berry - a very dark berry pink. I swapped it for the actual Neon Rose blush, so I'd definitely recommend checking your product is in the right box if purchasing anything from the range :)

Firstly, Neon Rose is my favourite colour out of all the blushes, it very much reminds me of a brighter version of Barry M's 'Peachy Pink' Lip Paint:

All of the blushes have a lovely texture: really creamy and then set to a somewhat matte powder finish. They look very natural when blended out but can easily be amped up. They have great pigmentation too so you only need minimal product.

I wore 'Pinch' today, which looks quite frightening in the pan however I applied it firstly with a MAC 109 and blended out with a duo fiber brush - it gave a really nice pink tint that looked like it was coming from within.

(L to R) Neon Rose, Pinch - top row blended out slightly.

I think for £6 they're very well priced, especially as you don't need that much product as they are so pigmented, they look nice applied to the lips too because of the pigmentation. I've used 'Pinch' every day since I purchased it, and I can see myself using Neon Rose even more than 'Pinch'.

Regarding the Superdrug MUA range, I finally swatched the eyeshadows when applied wet:

(wet)

(applied as normal with dry brush, layered 3-4 times)
(Shades L-R are 9 + 3)

As expected the pigmentation is far more impressive, especially the purple, I think it's such a lovely colour :)

First Impressions: Superdrug MUA Range

I know everyone's been giving rave reviews on these products, so when I finally got to see them in person today and swatch them I was disappointed to say the least. The eyeshadows are amazingly pigmented on the fingertips, but when swatched on the back of a hand or applied with a brush they become very sheer; I think the only way to get true color payoff is to apply them with a wet brush.

The 2 shades I picked up were 9 (purple) and 3 (dark silver). I really wanted the matte purple but the pigmentation of the matte shadows in comparison to the 'Pearl' finishes was awful.

To get this colour payoff I had to layer the colour 4-5 times, which I still think is pretty sheer to look at.

One thing you may notice from the up-close and personal pictures of the glitter liner is that the glitter isn't one uniform colour, it oddly has random flecks of green in there too.

The glitter eyeliners have a rather big brush applicator too, which can be a bit of a pain when it comes to application. The liners aren't packed with glitter, so it's pretty much the same as the Urban Decay glitter liners, in which you'd have to go over it 3-4 times to get a somewhat solid glitter line.

Overall, I don't think I'd repurchase. For £1 they're great for experimenting with new colours or those new to makeup, especially great if you're on a budget but I'd rather pay a few pounds more for eyeshadows that are going to have better pigmentation. I doubt I'll get much use out of these as I have similar colours with much better pigmentation, but I do quite like the glitter liner.

Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss: Indulge

Hi everyone,
Today the postman handed me my lovely Illamasqua box. I ordered it on Friday, but with the bank holiday it wasn't dispatched until yesterday and only took one day to arrive.

This is actually the first thing I've ordered from Illamasqua, the nearest counter to me is in Manchester which isn't too far but still a pain to get to as I'm not there very often at all - I'd much rather see the other products in person before purchasing.

Like many things a swatch of this on Temptalia sparked an obsession so I decided to take the plunge and I wasn't disappointed! I can quite safely say this is one of my favourite pink lip products at the moment.

It's a bright borderline neon pink. In the tube it looks like there are some tiny red particles in the gloss, but on the lips they aren't noticeable.

I actually like the packaging that it comes in, I always apply bright colours with a lip brush so doe foot and brush applicators are always a pain. I like that you can squeeze out the product and apply it however you choose:

As expected, colour payoff IS intense, very opaque and true to the tube colour:

As for scent, it's a pleasant sweet smell that is somewhat fruity. If you ever had Tixylix cough medicine as a child it reminds me of that, but I always loved the taste and smell of it so that's probably my fond memory overpowering the actual scent!

Formulation is somewhat sticky, so it has fairly good lasting power - but nowhere near as irritatingly sticky as a MAC Lipglass or Dazzleglass.

ELF Review

Photobucket

These arrived last week, within 2 days of being dispatched so I was very impressed. I've been using for a week to get a good idea of what the product is like before putting my opinion of them on here. These are the first products I've ever tried from the company and I'm certainly very glad I decided to try them out.

Firstly, the brushes. I ordered from the regular line the Concealer and the Blushing, Bronzing and Blending Brush.

I really like these both, the concealer brush is great for covering small blemishes, and can also be used as a lip brush as it's the perfect size for creating a rounded cupids bow.

The Blushing, Bronzing and Blending Brush isn't the softest brush in the world but I don't mind it it's quite soft, what I do like is that it's very small, angled and the perfect size for creating a precise contour. I wouldn't really use this brush for bronzing or blending at all, maybe blush but the shape certainly calls for applying a contour or highlight to the cheek area.

From the studio brush line I ordered the Small Angled Brush, and I must say it's smaller than I expected! I've been using this to fill in my brows and it's very good if you like to be precise in this area. I found it ideal for the outer part of my brow as naturally my brows tail off very thin, so I don't like to fill it in with too thick a line. This is also a great brush for applying eyeliner.

One product I do dislike that I purchased is the Wet Gloss Clear Lash & Brow mascara – I use clear mascara to set my brows usually but I really don't like this product at all. For me the mascara wand is simply too stiff to apply product to the brows and feels like it's scraping your skin.

From the Studio line I purchased the Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder.

I was initially very surprised with the size of this I expected it to be a lot smaller. Both the blush and bronzer are amazingly pigmented, the blush is a lovely peachy pink with gold shimmer. One thing I will say about the bronzer is that it's not ideal for contouring with as it's very shimmery = the opposite of what applying a contour is supposed to do. Creating a natural shadow with a shimmery product is defying the purpose in my eyes. Using this as a bronzer it's very nice however, and not muddy looking at all. I'll definitely repurchase this.

Photobucket
(really huge close-up picture, click to enlarge)

Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminance.
I LOVE this as a highlighter. This isn't the most tightly pressed powder in the world so I imagine dropping it would result in a shattered powdery mess, but it's very soft pale golden powder that looks amazing when it catches the light. I can see this suiting a lot of skintones. It originally came with the ELF logo embossed on it but as I've been using it it's worn down. I can see myself repurchasing this time and time again. It gives a healthy glow that's not glittery or shimmery, it's somewhat metallic.

Swatch:
Photobucket
I took this photo today after wearing it for a few hours on my cheekbone. This is applied to moisturised skin as I went foundaiton-free today. As you can see I have some very light freckles that are visible hehe. I took this with a flash so my whole cheekbone isn't illuminated, just the area the flash hit - don't worry I didn't have patchy highlighter.

And that's everything I purchased I'm afraid.

Maybelline Foundation Review: Dream Creamy & Superstay 24h

Superstay 24H Foundation
Photobucket
Picture from Google Images

I purchased Maybelline Superstay 24 hour primarily based on the colour range, 005 Light Beige matches me perfectly. I've been trying out this foundation for just over a week now, I've worn it through the day and I've worn it out for drinks in the night. Overall, I've had some mixed feelings about it so it's probably best to break it down into:

Likes-
  • Maybelline's claims on the lasting power are something I have to agree with, it looked just as good as when I applied it when it came time to remove it. When going out in the evenings I had no need for touch-ups, and it did last in a humid environment.
  • Coverage – like nearly all foundations I applied this with both a duo fibre brush and then a MAC 109 brush for areas that needed more coverage. I feel like this is a medium coverage that can certainly be built up to a full. If you're looking for a lightweight foundation this probably isn't it.
  • Despite not feeling this is a lightweight foundation, the formulation feels a lot lighter in comparison to Revlon Colourstay – which feels much thicker in comparison. Superstay is much more of a liquid formulation (or runnier to simplify).
  • No need to powder after application as it sets to a matte finish.
  • As I've mentioned before despite having dry skin I'm prone to some hormonal acne around my chin and I don't like wearing heavyweight foundation around this area despite wanting full coverage to mask light acne scarring. This not only covered well but didn't break me out at all whilst using it. The formulation of this is oil-free and claims to not clog pores.

Dislikes -
  • Dry Skin – this foundation did not stand up well against dry areas of my face. It definitely made dry skin stand out more as it clung to it more, this was amplified by the matte finish. This is why I prefer a dewy finish as I feel it's much more suited to my skin type. If you have dry skin I would recommend exfoliation and moisturising well if you're thinking of using this foundation as when my skin was dry this is what I had to do. I don't have to do this with Revlon Colourstay foundation and it sets to a more dewy finish on me.

Overall I give it a 3.5/5.
I don't think I'd repurchase as the formulation isn't ideal for my skin type – I think this is more suited to normal/oily skin category due to the matte finish. I don't think a foundation has to have a matte finish to last well and I'll be going back to using my Revlon Colourstay.

Dream Creamy Foundation
Photobucket
Picture from Google Images

Maybelline Dream Creamy foundation I purchased for the full £7.99 as I missed the introductory reduced price. This foundation is also the one I've been testing for the longest amount of time being just over a month. Maybelline claim this foundation is “Specifically designed for normal to dry skin”. The breakdown:

Likes-
  • Coverage – I needed to apply this foundation sparingly as I found it to have more of a full coverage compared to a medium. The coverage is fantastic even when applied sparingly using a duo fibre brush, or built up more using a MAC 109.
  • The finish although slightly matte, is less matte than the Superstay 24 which is just my personal preference as I don't like a totally flat finish.
  • It photographs well – I tend to use this foundation when photographing makeup looks for my blog.

Dislikes -
  • Colour range – despite getting the lightest shade: 04 Light Porcelain it's slightly too dark for me. As you can see below the Superstay 24h is paler. Looking at the Maybelline site the colour range is a lot more limited for this foundation in comparison to the Superstay also.
Photobucket
  • The main thing that irritated me about this foundation is that it clings to dry skin, and again as it has a somewhat matte finish it only amplifies this. As Maybelline marketed this as being moisturising and "Specifically designed for normal to dry skin" I strongly have to disagree. I found this foundation only worked well on well moisturised skin.
  • The packaging – although this is a solid cream foundation, I don't like that I have to dip my brush into the container repeatedly for the thought of bacteria build up especially being prone to break outs around the chin area.
  • The coverage – although I like the coverage at times it's a love-hate relationship as I don't always want such a heavy coverage. I had to apply this sparingly. If you applied it like a regular foundation you'd end up looking somewhat plastic as it covers EVERYTHING and can easily look cakey. I found I could even use this foundation as a concealer when using lighter coverage foundations.

Overall I give it a 3/5.
I wouldn't repurchase as although the Maxfactor Miracle Touch foundaiton is more expensive the formulation is a lot nicer than the Maybelline and doesn't have the cakey high coverage feel that this foundation does. I feel this foundation is best suited to normal skin types more than anything, certainly not dry.

Please note that this review is based on my personal experience with these foundations. As everyone's skin is different what doesn't work for me might be ideal for you.

MAC Lipstick Mini Haul - Pinks

Hi Everyone,
This morning my MAC box arrived, yay! I went on a bit of a pink lipstick kick. After opening everything my room smells of that lovely MAC vanilla scent.
Here's what I ordered:

(left to right)Impassioned, Pink Nouveau, Viva Glam Gaga

(left to right)Impassioned, Pink Nouveau, Viva Glam Gaga

Observant people may notice that there are 4 boxes in the background. That's because I did order 4 lipsticks, one of them being Girl About Town. Sadly it's about to begin its journey back to MAC as I'm returning it :(
I expected a bright bright pink but next to my skin tone it looks a deeper plummy pink to me *tear*.
I think once my money is refunded I'm going to do what I was originally, and order Show Orchid from MAC Pro. If you're NC15-ish and own Show Orchid, how bright does it look for you?

All the lipsticks I got are beautiful, but I love Impassioned. I can't believe I waited so long to get it! Its a perfect warm pink, its ridiculously bright too. If you're a fan of bold lipsticks, definitely give this one a go.

Pink Nouveau is a gorgeous deeper bubblegum pink and it's been on my list forever.

Viva Glam Gaga I was surprised by, I've heard a lot of things about it being unwearable but I find it very wearable. 1 swipe gives a glossy sheen and transparent light pink. Built up I think it's gorgeous :)

I've heard a lot of things about it being similar to Saint Germain, so I thought I'd do a comparison:

(l to r) Saint Germain, Viva Glam Gaga
Personally, I do not think these are similar at all other than the fact that they're both pale pinks. Saint Germain is a lot more purple toned and not as pale as Viva Glam Gaga, whereas Viva Glam Gaga is a warmer bubblegum pink, though I don't find it as bright as Saint Germain. I think Gaga is a lot more wearable.

If anyone has noticed I had a little play around with my blog too, and I think I'm happy with it for now. I made a new header that isn't as busy and added a search bar too :)

Adios, Girl About Town! It just wasn't meant to be :(
